Lanterns of Love
We come to a pivotal time in our country and world. I write this today, as George Floyd’s funeral services take place, and he will be laid to rest. We remember those, also who have lost their lives from acts of hate and darkness.
Our nation mourns over police brutality, inequality, and racism. We are living through a global pandemic that has kept most of us at home. Many are in financial difficulty and have lost their jobs or businesses. These are tough times.
God knows it all. He is with us through it all. He can shine light into the darkest places and expose acts of evil. From these dark places, we can turn the other direction and head for good. Police departments can take a hard look within; parents can teach their children to love others no matter the color of their skin, we can reach out and love one another.
If we each take our sphere of influence, and we all have it – in our families, jobs, homes, communities, and shine our light for others to see, then that love will shine like a lantern for good and warm the next place and then the next, until the warmth from the glow of our love will shine throughout the whole world.
If we walk as children of light, we can change the world. We can pursue this path of peace and set an example for generations to come.
I write this simple prayer for us today: Lord, as we rise in the morning, let our feet walk the path of peace and let each one of us hold our lantern of love for all to see, may your joy warm the nations and our world.
Let it begin with me. Amen
Psalm 34:14 says: Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Luke 1:79: (Jesus came) to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
